Brush-tailed Rock-wallaby
These shy and elusive creatures are mainly active at night and you are unlikely to see one whilst visiting. They can be recognised by their thick furry dark brown tail.

This wallaby is now listed as endangered and is the only rock-wallaby present in eastern NSW. Its numbers have drastically declined since European colonisation mainly due to foxes, dogs and loss of habitat.
Rock-wallabies live on the rocky sandstone escarpments and cliffs, in fissures and caves. Their diet is grass and foliage and fruits of shrubs and trees.

Kangaroo Valley has a colony of Brush-tailed Rock-wallabies and an organisation 'Friends of the Brush-tailed Rock-wallaby' is devoted to the preservation of this species. To find out more visit www.rockwallaby.org.au
