Kangaroo Valley is one of Australia's leading eco responsible tourist destinations. Our aim is to ensure that your visit doesn't harm the environment so we can all continue to enjoy the pristine natural beauty and country charm of this area. Kangaroo Valley was the first plastic bag free town in mainland Australia. This initiative is proudly supported by many local tourism operators who are also participating in our 'Becoming Carbon Neutral' programme to reduce and offset their greenhouse emissions (see below 'Have You Seen our Green Kangaroo') We are introducing eco responsible practices that include participating in nature and heritage projects to preserve our beautiful environment and historic structures. Visitors can make a valuable contribution to offset and reduce the impact of the journey to Kangaroo Valley. By making a donation at the Tourist Information Centre, you will be contributing to planting native trees in an audited conservation zone run by Conservation Volunteers Australia.

Have you seen our Green Kangaroo?

Enjoy a green tourism experience in Kangaroo Valley. The Kangaroo Valley Tourist Association is using a Green Kangaroo symbol to indicate the tourist operators who are participating in our 'Reducing our Footprint' programme. Many of its members have audited their CO2 footprint, are reducing their energy use and offsetting greenhouse gases so that your visit has minimal impact on the environment. Australia's unique wildlife, plants and ancient geology are at the very heart of our nation's tourism experience. Our passion to preserve the natural beauty and bounty of Kangaroo Valley has led to us taking this initiative. Discover Green Tourism

How you can make a positive contribution and reduce the negative impacts of your journey to Kangaroo Valley. Make a donation to our conservation project at our Visitors Centre when you arrive or with Conservation Volunteers Australia - find out more. While the Kangaroo Valley Tourist Association does not promote tree planting as direct offset action we do support tree planting for conservation. This is because we do not want to encourage visitors to consider tree planting as a way of cancelling the pollution from their journey. Trees take many years to produce oxygen in quantities to balance your transport and we need positive action now to reduce our worldwide GHG Emissions. So please try to reduce your emissions by travelling by public transport or driving less and do enjoy walking and cycling. Planting trees is terrific for conservation and we encourage visitors to participate in the Conservation Volunteers Australia program or our Green Kangaroo Wildlife Corridor (to be launched shortly). http://www.kangaroovalleytourist.asn.au/dir/wildlife
