Echidna
Another Australian animal that lives here is the spiny echidna often seen burrowing its strong snout into the earth and under logs to lick up termites and other insects. One of Australia's rare egg-laying marsupials, a monotreme, it will curl up into a tight spiny ball if disturbed.
You will often see echidnas on the banks or edges of road, driveways and paths. They are most active and visible in the springtime.
