Kangaroos and Wallabies
Yes there are kangaroos in Kangaroo Valley, in fact most of them are technically wallabies although in the drier western parts of the Valley you may see mobs of Eastern Grey Kangaroos grazing in the paddocks in the late afternoons and early morning.

Many of the other 'roos' are actually wallabies. The Swamp Wallaby with its dark fur and pretty face inhabits the wetter forest and rainforest areas. These are 'browsers' rather than 'grazers' and eat leaves and shoots from trees and shrubs so are not likely to be seen out in the open. Red Necked Wallabies are also found in the Valley and the Valley is home to a colony of the very rare and endangered Brush-tailed Rock-wallaby.

Your best chance of spotting kangaroos and wallabies is to take a drive up some of the side roads in the late afternoon, just around dusk. Keep an eye out in the paddocks along either Mount Scanzi Road or Bendeela Road. Remember to travel slowly (not more than 60k) as sometimes the roos stray onto the roads too.
