The Heavens Mountain Escape

Abounds in wildlife with 100's of eastern grey kangaroos, dozens of common wallaroos and several wombats grazing right up to the cottage verandahs. We currently have a heard of 14 alpacas, which are very 'guest friendly'. Our 160 acres on the side of Barrengarry Mountain lends itself very nicely to the more adventurous with good hiking boots who feel inclined to scale the heights up to the crown land above the escarpment or for the not so adventurous who just want to amble about in the extensive paddocks and natural bushland. Wedge-tailed Eagles, Bower birds and whip birds are just a sample of the many birds seen here.

Allambie Gums

Just the name Allambie Gums conjures up thoughts of a 'nature' experience: Allambie, in aboriginal language, means 'quiet resting place'. Where? - among the gum trees. Allambie Gums is set against a 'parkland' forest of majestic white gums. Eucalyptus Rossii is the main floral feature within immediate surroundings. The bushland reserve which backs onto the Kangaroo River offers a variety of native flora types, clear to view without leaving your deck.

The most interesting and always awe-inspiring 'nature' experience to be offered by Allambie Gums is the presence of the 'family' of Eastern Grey Kangaroos which graze regularly, right here in the back yard, often just metres from the deck of the unit. A solitary and more timid, dark coloured wallaroo can occasionally be observed. It is an honour and a privilege to share their home. On the odd rare occasion a residential common wombat, an echidna or a 2x metre goanna will walk within view. Birds are abundant and their presence changes with the seasons: king parrots, kookaburras, bower birds, lyre birds, blue wrens, rosellas, wattle birds, various finches, yellow-tailed black cockatoos, sulphur-crested cockatoos and many, many more. A few minutes walk, across the Hampden Bridge and Kangaroo River, is the Pioneer Farm Museum and marked bushwalks for your 'nature' experience.
